Technology in the Residence Halls

Internet

All residence hall rooms are equipped with 10/100-switched Ethernet connections. In order to connect to the network your computer must have an Ethernet card. You will also need your own Ethernet patch cable to connect your computer to the wall jack. It is a good idea to purchase an Ethernet cable BEFORE coming to campus, as supplies at local computer stores run very short with the annual influx of College students to Boston in the fall.

Wentworth's digital network provides access to the Internet through a robust 18 Megabit fiber circuit. Information on configuring your computer to work with the campus network will be provided to you at check-in.
If you are a commuter student and you have a laptop computer, you can make use of a number of newly installed Ethernet ports in the Beatty Hall cafeteria or in the Lower Beatty Commons to get access to our network and the Internet. To utilize these ports you will need an Ethernet card for your laptop computer and an Ethernet patch cable.

Information on configuration and connection:
. how to connect your PC
. how to connect your Macintosh

Wentworth has also begun to implement wireless technology in locations around campus. While still only partially deployed, coverage is quite good at many locations on campus.

Cable TV

Cable TV is provided in all residence halls at no additional charge to students. All you need to do is hook up your cable-ready TV to a cable TV jack. You will need your own COAX cable to connect your TV to the cable TV wall jack. We recommend a 20 foot cable for maximum flexibility. Cable TV service is provided to the campus by RCN. Should you have trouble related to cable TV service, the OIT Help Desk will be happy to coordinate a service call for you.
