
General Procedures for Operating Media in Beatty 401
Below are the basic operating procedures for the Beatty 401 mediated classroom. By following these procedures, you should be able to use all the devices available in this room. If you are experiencing problems with any of this equipment, please contact the OIT helpdesk at extension 4500.
Accessing the Room
All faculty who are teaching in the mediated classrooms should have been issued a key to access these facilities from their department chair.
Accessing the Equipment Cabinet
Faculty who are using the mediated classroom will be issued a key to the equipment cabinet (see figure 1) after a brief 30 to 45 minute orientation. This key will open and close any of the new equipment cabinets located in these classrooms.

Powering On/Off the LCD Projector
When using the LCD Projector, you may have to lower the projection screen (see Figure 2)

The LCD projector is controlled by a switch (console) on the wall behind the instructor’s desk (see Figure 4).

To turn on the projector, press and release the top left button on the wall-mounted control panel. A green light should turn on and blink for approximately one minute. After powering up, the blinking green light should turn solid. This indicates that the LCD projector is fully operational.
To turn off the projector, simply press and hold the top left button for about 2 seconds. This will cause the solid green light to blink. After the green light stops blinking, the projector has successfully shut down.
Powering On and Shutting Down the Instructor’s Computer
The Instructor’s computer should normally be left on. In situations when the computer has been shut down, press the “On” button on the CPU (see Figures 5a and 5b) and press the “On” button on the Monitor (see Figure 6).

After booting, you will be asked to login to the computer. The username is Instructor and the password field should be left blank:
Username: Instructor
Password: [blank]
Displaying and Operating the Instructor’s Computer from the LCD Projector
After you have successfully logged in, do not forget to make sure that you have selected the PC (see Figure 7) input on the wall-mounted control panel to make sure that you are projecting the computer through the LCD projector. This will allow your audience to see the information on the PC.

Note: The wall control panel should be setup so that the “PC” button will toggle between the MAC and PC in the room provided both machines are turned on. If this toggling isn’t working, only power on the machine you wish to use and be sure that the other machine is turned off.

Configuring a laptop to work with the LCD Projector
This mediated classroom will also allow you to project a laptop through the LCD projector so that you can bring your WIT laptop with you and use this as part of their instruction.
To ensure that your laptop works properly, please follow the directions below.
First, turn off the LCD projector according to the steps outlined in the section “Powering On/Off the LCD Projector”.
Next, notice that there is a vacant VGA cable coming from the located on the center device (see Figure 8). Using the VGA cable provided in the cabinet, plug one end of the VGA cable into the VGA input device in the cabinet, and the other into the back of your laptop.

Next, turn on your laptop.
You can now power on the LCD projector according to the steps outlined in the section “Powering On/Off the LCD Projector”.
Finally, be sure to press the button on the wall-mounted switch behind the instructors desk labeled “Laptop” (see Figure 9).

Your laptop should now be projected through the LCD Projector.
Displaying and Operating the Document Camera from the LCD Projector
To use the document camera first make sure that the document camera is turned on. This button is on the rear of the document camera device (see Figure 10). The two lamps should turn on when you power on the document camera.

Next, on the wall-mounted switch behind the instructor’s desk, make sure that you press the button labeled “Document Camera / Slide to Video” (see Figure 11).

You should now see your document, transparency or object displayed on the projection screen.
Displaying and Operating the VCR from the LCD Projector
First, make sure that you have LCD projector turned on and ready to go. See section “Powering On/Off the LCD Projector”.
Next, on the wall-mounted switch behind the instructor’s station press the button next to the VCR logo (see Figure 12).

Unlock the equipment cabinet using your equipment cabinet key. Turn on the VCR by pressing the Power button. This button should be labeled “Power” (see Figure 13).

Next, load your VHS tape by inserting it into the VCR and press the play button.
NOTE: The VCR can be operated using the controls on the wall-mounted switch behind the instructor’s desk. (see figure 14). Finally, you may want to adjust the volume. This should also be done by using the volume control located on the wall-mounted switch behind the instructor’s desk (see figure 15).

Displaying and Operating the DVD from the LCD Projector
First, make sure that you have LCD projector turned on and ready to go. See section “Powering On/Off the LCD Projector”.
Next, on the wall-mounted switch behind the instructor’s station press the button next to the DVD logo (see Figure 16).

Unlock the equipment cabinet using your equipment cabinet key. Turn on the DVD by pressing the Power button on the DVD device. This button should be labeled “Power” (see Figure 17).

Next, load your DVD by inserting it into the DVD player then press the play button.
NOTE: The DVD can be operated using the controls on the wall-mounted switch behind the instructor’s desk (see Figure 18).

Finally, you may want to adjust the volume. This should be done by using the volume control located on the wall-mounted switch behind the instructor’s desk (see Figure 19).

Displaying and Operating the Slide Projector
In the equipment cabinet there is a slide projector. This device is connected to the LCD projector and is controlled from the buttons on the slide projector device. Please follow the steps below to ensure that the slide projector operates correctly.
First, make sure that the LCD projector is turned “On”. Please see the section “Powering On/Off the LCD Projector” for instructions.
Next, unlock the left equipment cabinet door and pull the sliding tray out with the projector on it. The power button is located on the back of the slide projector (see Figure 19). The forward and reverse controls are located on the top of the slide projector (see Figure 20).

Finally, on the wall-mounted switch behind the instructor’s desk, make sure that you press the button labeled “Document Camera / Slide to Video” (see Figure 21).

Adjusting the Lights in the Classroom
The lights in the classroom can be controlled by the switches labeled “lights” in the front of the room. One switch controls the amount of light available in the front of the room while the other switch controls the amount of light located above the audience.
