36th National Convention

Greetings!

Ainsley A. Stewart, Jr. - 2010 National Convention Planning Chairperson
Having existed for over thirty years, the National Society of Black Engineers has stood for academic excellence, technical excellence, leadership, and community service in the minority community and across the globe. For over a decade, the society has invested much time and resources into the development of its international sector through various programs and conferences. With a growing international membership, our leadership strives to continue making NSBE a worldwide name capable of worldwide impact. A few years ago, NSBE decided to hold its first national convention in Toronto, Canada with the following major objectives in mind:
- To expose our United States membership to various international cultures while honoring and celebrating the success and dedication of our Canadian membership & our overseas global membership
- To garner various levels of interest & support for NSBE amongst similar organizations
- To further expand the NSBE membership abroad and execute NSBE activities that produce a global community impact
The 36th Annual National Convention in March 2010 would be the first NSBE convention ever held outside of the United States. This milestone in NSBE history represents a major step in our global expansion plans and prominently communicates the growth, success, and effectiveness of our programs. The annual convention of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) targets our diverse membership through core collegiate programmatic offerings, a pre-college initiative (PCI) conference, a technical professional conference (TPC), and a graduate school conference (GSC). Our career and graduate school fair is competitive as any other, with over 300 exhibits of companies and graduate schools taking their time to meet NSBE’s talented pool of students and professional attendees. The planned motivational speakers, workshops, panel discussions, and executive roundtables will provide attendees with food for thought while stimulating new and continued interest in the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields.
Specialized exam training (GMAT, GRE, SAT, etc.) and professional training courses provide our membership with training in an effort to elevate them in the next level of their personal and professional development. The following competitions held at our conferences: science fair, undergraduate students in technical research, technical research symposium, Try-Math-a-Lon (TMAL) and Academic Tech Bowl (ATB), specifically showcase those attendees that are excelling academically and succeeding professionally. NSBE’s impact on the community will also be evident from the community service events scheduled to be held in the Toronto, Canada area. NSBE annually hosts a major community service activity for all convention attendees to participate in every conference location.
To commemorate this specific convention, we will be hosting very creative and unique events to showcase the city of Toronto and take advantage of the international atmosphere. Stay tuned for more updates as the National Society of Black Engineers prepares to bring its largest event to the country of Canada!
Sincerely,
Ainsley A. Stewart, Jr.
